AAMU Initiative Offers Paid Fire Training and Certifications

Applications Now Open for 1890 LGI Student Firefighter Training Program
The 1890 Land Grant 澳门金沙城中心_波音赌场下载-真人app (LGI) Wildland Fire Consortium is now accepting applications for its Student Firefighter Training Program. The U.S. Forest Service partnership is modeled after Alabama A&M University's successful FireDawgs program, a student-led forest firefighting team created in 2009 to increase the participation of minorities in fire management. The Consortium now includes the U.S. Forest Service, Alabama A&M University, Florida A&M University, Southern University and Tuskegee University.
This fully funded program offers comprehensive fire management training through a series of events, workshops, and fieldwork, including:
- Kickoff Event in Montgomery, Alabama (November 15-17, 2024)
- 2-Day Professional Workshop & Drone Symposium at Florida A&M University (February 21-23, 2025)
- Wildland Fire Training at Alabama A&M University (May 27-June 7, 2025), with meals and dorm accommodations provided
Eligible students must be full-time undergraduates majoring in forestry, natural resources, or a related science discipline with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Program participants will receive a $3,500 stipend, travel support for training and conferences, hands-on fire field training, and valuable fire certifications.
